Grandparent DNA Test
A Grandparent DNA Test can answer parentage questions when either mom or dad are not available for DNA testing. The relationship between a child and alleged grandparent can be proved or disproved with this test. Get the peace of mind you deserve with our Grandparent DNA test.
Maternity DNA testing determines whether a woman could be the biological mother of a child. Like a DNA paternity test, it compares a child’s DNA pattern with that of the alleged mother to determine how likely it is that the child has inherited the DNA from the alleged mother.
Often law enforcement officers are able to identify the individual responsible for a crime, or human remains through DNA testing. A significant factor in most criminal cases is the results obtained through the Forensic DNA test mainly because of its reliability. Blood, semen, hair, saliva, teeth, skin cells, perspiration, and urine, are all very common places to obtain a significant amount of DNA as well.

HAIR FOLLICLE A hair follicle drug test can detect drug use for a period of 90 days or longer depending on the length of the hair being tested. Hair follicle test are being used more and more by employers or court ordered because of the wider window of detection and inability to tamper with the actual test. Questions regarding paternity during pregnancy are much more common than one may believe. You may now rely on a safe and simple DNA Paternity Test during pregnancy. There is DNA in a pregnant mother’s blood that can be gathered and isolated to determine the paternity of a child; this can be performed as early as 9 weeks into the pregnancy. The DNA Paternity Test that DNASU offers, will provide a greater than 99.99% probability.
The MITOCHONDRIAL DNA TEST can be used to determine if individuals are biologically related through a shared maternal line or if siblings share the same mother. The Mitochondrial DNA sequence is passed from mothers to their children and remains the same throughout generations. Mitochondrial DNA that is present in a male cannot be passed to his children, a mother can only pass down Mitochondrial DNA.
All individuals carry a sex chromosome, the 23rd pair. Females carry XX and males carry XY. The Y chromosome is passed down as a direct paternal lineage from generation-to-generation by fathers to their son with very little mutation over time. Since the Y chromosome is so stable a strong comparison can be performed using other paternal male family members, such as a grandfather, alleged father’s brother or even another male sibling where the paternity relationship was known. The Y chromosome test is an alternative way to prove paternity when the alleged father is unavailable or deceased.
A FAMILY RECONSTRUCTION DNA TEST is performed in cases where the alleged father is deceased or unavailable for DNA testing. The genes of the missing alleged father are present in his known biological family members. Our DNA Specialist will determine which family members to use for testing in order to to strengthen the results. A sufficient number of family members will be required in order to obtain conclusive results.
This type of testing can become very complex, we suggest you complete the form below to tell us more about your situation. A DNA Specialist get back with you to discuss the available options based on your specific circustances.
A siblingship test is useful for determining if individuals are full brother/sisters, half brother/sisters or unrelated. Whenever the mother(s) is/are known, it is strongly recommended that they be included in the test. Including the mother(s) in the test can increase the combined likelihood ratio ten-fold, where you might see a probability of 99.999% instead of only 83.9%.
Listed below are a couple different scenarios incase you might be a little confused about which test to request:
Scenario one: FULL vs. HALF
If two children know they have the same mother and want to know if they have the same the same father, or they know they have the same father and want to know if they have the same mother, you would request FULL SIBLINGS vs. HALF SIBLINGS.
Scenario two: FULL vs. UNRELATED
If two children are unsure if they have the same mother and the same father and it’s possible they share neither, you would need to be tested as FULL vs. UNRELATED.
Scenario Three: HALF vs. UNRELATED
If two children have a different mother and want to know if they have the same father or, they know they have different fathers and want to know if they have the same mother, they would need to be tested as HALF vs. UNRELATED.
Due to the complex nature of this type of relationship testing it’s best to speak with one of our case coordinators to make sure you get the right test for your situation.
Viability DNA Testing
Viability Test a DNA viability test is performed on unusual samples to check for the presence of usable DNA for a paternity test or other DNA tests. In paternity cases where the alleged father is missing or unavailable, we may be able to use preserved samples such as blood, hair, tooth brush or other item(s) where potential DNA may have been left behind.
If you have samples that may be usable for a viability test, please call 1-800-215-9948 to discuss this possibility with one of our case managers. The case manager can discuss with you the probability of obtaining usable DNA from the sample you’d like to have tested.
Please provide the following information when you call:
- The name and contact information of the coroner, medical examiner, hospital, funeral home or any other facility that has the sample.
- The age and storage condition of the sample.
- The size or amount of available sample.
The viability test fee is variable and depends on the sample type and condition. This non-refundable fee is separate from the DNA testing fees and need to be paid before testing begins.
Once samples are received at our laboratory we guarantee accurate and conclusive results in 3 to 5 days.

Twin DNA Test
Have you ever wondered if your twins were identical or fraternal? Physical appearance sometimes is not a reliable method to determining twin type. Identical twins don’t always look identical and fraternal twins can sometimes look very much the same. This can be very confusing. In some cases twins grow up never knowing for sure if they are truly identical or not.
DID YOU KNOW:
Identical twins often share a single sac with placenta and amniotic membranes. Fraternal twins normally form into two separate sacs. However, up to 25% of the time this method is not accurate. At the time of birth the physician normally determines the twin type by examining whether both fetus’s share the same sac. The determination is visual and not always accurate and can be very misleading. Studies show twins can have two outer sacs and still be identical, and in other cases the placentas of fraternal twins can sometimes fuse together and appear as one.
The only for sure way to conclusively determine whether twins of the same sex are identical is through Twin DNA testing.
Fraternal twins are similar to full siblings that are born at different times, they usually share similar traits such as eye color, hair texture, hair color, height and weight.
Identical twins share the exact same profile, traits and sex. Physical attributes of identical twins are normally the same but can be quite different.
Immigration DNA Test
Reuniting with love ones can be an exciting event, however on occasion the process can be long and drawn out causing unwanted stress and confusion. Let the staff at DNASU help expedite the process. We work closely with embassies and consulates reuniting families around the world. We are experienced and familiar with the immigration process and each case is handled with care.
The immigration process for family members requires prove of biological relationship and when the paper documentation is missing or found insufficient to support the application, DNA testing is requested. When a DNA test is requested by the US Embassy or USCIS we can help. We coordinate the case from start to finish.
AABB Accredited Laboratory
Our contracted laboratory is accredited by the American Association of Blood Banks (“AABB”) as required by the USCIS and US embassies.
If an alleged father is unavailable for any reason, testing the alleged father’s sisters or brothers can help establish the paternity for a niece or nephew. An aunt or uncle, commonly share some of the same DNA as their niece or nephew. Please note that only one quarter of the possible aunt or uncles genes are commonly shared with the child, where as children share half and half with their biological parents. Also, including the mother in this test is highly recommended due to strengthening the genetic evidence.
For additional information and pricing regarding Avuncular DNA Testing please call to speak with one of our knowledgeable DNA Testing Specialist.
Having a copy of your DNA Profile on hand is very beneficial. DNASU provides a service that allows you to obtain a copy of your genetic profile. The DNA Profile can be used as a reference record.
Did you know, on any given day, there are as many as 100,00 active missing persons cases every day. With a DNA Profile on hand you will be able to provide a valid form of identification for law enforcement and crime scene investigators.
In addition a DNA Profile is highly recommended for military personnel, high risk employees, firefighters and overseas contractors. Also for persons wishing to trace their history/lineage, a DNA Profile can be added to an ancestry database. This is an official document and should be stored in a safe place with other identification information such as a passport, social security card and other government issued records.
